Focus on African Americans in the U.S. Government at the Douala Linguistic Center

On February 12, U.S. Embassy Regional Security Officer (RSO) Wade Boston visited the Douala Linguistic Center to give a presentation on African Americans in the United States government.  The Center’s director, Ms. Mbiwan Tanyi, moderated the presentation and discussion that followed.  RSO Boston discussed a variety of issues relating to the U.S. Department of State’s annual Black History Month theme, “From Slavery to Freedom, Africans in the Americas.”  The presentation and subsequent lively discussion was extremely informative, particularly regarding the role of African Americans in overseas Foreign Service employment positions.  The students enthusiastically participated in the discussion phase of the presentation and brought forth thought-provoking questions on the role of Africa in U.S. government’s foreign policy.  The presentation ended with requests for future visits, as many of the Center’s students were interested in taking advantage of educational opportunities in the United States.
