Ambassador Visits the Dja Reserve with Minister of Forestry

From April 9 – 11, 2006, the Public Affairs Section Yaounde organized the press coverage of a three-day tour of the Dja Reserve, a forested region in South-East Cameroon, by the Ambassador, the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife and two parliamentarians.  The tour included a 6 km hike into the forest, three village visits and a town hall meeting.  Local residents took the opportunity to express their concerns and needs and thanked the Ambassador for his interest and concern.  At each stop, the Ambassador distributed U.S. Embassy-themed “pagnes” (printed fabric) to the local women.

Media coverage was extensive across the country.  Government and local radio, television and print media provided stories each day of the trip to a nationwide audience.  The two largest newspapers each produced feature stories and follow-up interviews.  The tone of the articles was extremely positive and editorials highlighted the Ambassador’s role in encouraging the Minister to visit his own constituency.
