Ambassador Visits World Food Program Women’s Association Granary

On December 13, 2006, Ambassador Niels Marquardt visited a Pitoa-based World Food Program (WFP) granary, one of many projects undertaken by WFP in Cameroon’s northern provinces. The Pitoa granary is managed by Réseau des Femmes dynamiques de l’Arrondissement de Pitoa (GIC REFEDA), a network of women’s associations.  The Ambassador was welcomed by WFP Country Director Fatma Samoura and REFEDA President Mbadjoudji.  REFEDA’s range of income-generating activities encompasses the fields of agriculture, livestock, and sewing.  The network is able to generate additional income for families, thus enabling them to send their children to school.  Following the Ambassador’s tour of one of the REFEDA granaries, WFP staff concluded the visit with a short presentation and question-and-answer session involving REFEDA members.
