Educational Advising
EAC Services For The General Public
Educational Advising Center (EAC)
U.S. Embassy, Yaoundé
The Educational Advising Center at the U.S. Embassy in Yaoundé Cameroon offers services to the public regarding study in the U.S. Individuals are welcome to use the services provided. EAC Members receive additional services.
Group Sessions:
Members of the public are welcome at all regularly scheduled group sessions. Some group sessions may be free while others will require a fee per person. This fee will have to be paid by each attendee including parents, sponsors, siblings, etc. of non-members. EAC Members do not pay. See the main Educational Advising Center webpage for details about group sessions including dates and times. Basic details will also normally be available in the email signature of the Educational Advisor (YaoundeEDU@state.gov) and on flyers available from the guards at the main gate of the U.S. Embassy in Yaoundé.
Individual Appointments:
- Dates and times for Open Advising will be listed at least monthly on the main Educational Advising Center webpage. During Open Advising, individuals may meet with an Educational Advisor at the EAC. Appointments cost 1000 FCFA and are not to exceed 30 minutes.
- To sign up for an Open Advising appointment, individuals must come to the IRC the day of Open Advising and sign up for an appointment on the sign-up sheet outside of the Educational Advising Center Office. Sign-up will require providing some detailed information: Complete name, phone number, email address, province, level of study completed, subject of past study, level of study to pursue in the U.S., topic of study to be pursued, topic to be discussed at the appointment, date(s) and title(s) of group session(s) attended, and signature. All information will be required in order to be seen. (If a phone number is not available, an email address alone will be accepted.)
- Appointments will be given on a first-come, first-served basis. These appointments cannot be reserved ahead of time. There will be no exceptions.
- Sign-up will be “open” until all slots are filled for that day. Individuals who are awaiting their appointment may quietly make use of the IRC facilities and EAC resources until it is their turn.
- Non-members requesting an Open Advising appointment must still meet the criterion to have attended an appropriate group session before being seen individually.
- Individuals will not be able to sign up for more than one Open Advising appointment/time slot per day.
- To gain access to the IRC for Open Advising appointments, individuals must follow the same procedures required of all IRC users. Namely, they must either be members of the IRC (being allowed to enter based upon display of their IRC card) or they should have contacted the IRC 24 hours ahead of time to receive permission to enter the IRC. This way, normal security measures will be taken.
- No non-member Open Advising appointments will be granted during the months of May through August.
