Educational Advising

Educational Advising Center

The EducationUSA Advising Center (EAC) is an official, accredited authority on U.S. study. It provides information and services to people in Cameroon who are interested in studying in the U.S. and to persons or organizations abroad about Cameroon's educational system and schools.

Services

The following services are available at the EducationUSA Advising Center:

  • Advice on planning for education and career, selection of fields of study and/or career search at undergraduate and graduate levels; 
  •  Information on accredited institutions of higher education in the U.S. and in Cameroon;
  • Access to publications, college and university catalogs, university descriptions and addresses;
  • Registration booklets, study materials, and guidance for standardized tests such as the TOEFL, SAT, GMAT, and GRE.


The EducationUSA Adviser is also available to make presentations to schools, businesses, community groups, and others on studying in the U.S.

**IMPORTANT NOTICE: SAT PAPER REGISTRATION FORMS HAVE ARRIVED! Students who wish to take the SAT and/or SAT Subject Tests in Cameroon must register by mail using a paper registration form. This form, the SAT Practice Test, and the SAT Practice Booklet are available for free from the guards at the entrance to the Consular section of the U.S. Embassy as well as from the James Baldwin Information Resource Center in the U.S. Embassy. A limited number of registration forms, practice test, and practice booklets are also available at the American Language Center in Yaounde, the American Language Center in Douala, and at LUKMEF in Limbe. Note: The International Test Center Code for the American Language Center in Yaounde is 76-685. The International Test Center Code for the American Language Center in Douala is 76-610. You must use these codes when registering for the SAT and/or SAT Subject Tests. For more information on standardized testing, please see the Additional Information” link.

General Schedule of Educational Advising Center (EAC) Services

Please note that the schedule of sessions varies from week to week. Occasionally, program dates and times change at the last minute due to unforeseen circumstances. It is important to check this webpage for up-to-date information. Additionally, for security reasons, individuals are now required to sign up in advance in order to attend programs. Individuals who have not signed up in advance will not be permitted to attend programs.

Individual Educational Advising

Advanced scheduling of individual educational advising appointments is available only to EAC members. For more about how to become an EAC Member, visit the EAC Membership page.

EAC Member Advising

As always, individual advising for EAC members will be available by appointment. Please request an appointment time via an email to YaoundeEDU@state.gov. EAC members will receive priority in booking appointments.

Open Advising

Open Advising takes place in the EducationUSA Advising Center, located in the James Baldwin Information Resource Center (JBIRC) at the U.S. Embassy in Yaoundé. During Open Advising, members of the general public may meet one-on-one with the EducationUSA Advisor. The cost for this 30-minute appointment is 1.000 FCFA; payment is due at the beginning of the meeting. Individuals are required to attend one of the group sessions listed above before they are allowed to sign up for an appointment during Open Advising.

Students may request an appointment in advance via an email to YaoundeEDU@state.gov. The email should include the student’s name, intended topic of study in the U.S., and the degree he or she would like to pursue (undergraduate or graduate). Please include the date(s) and time(s) the student is available. The Advisor works on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

In order to attend Open Advising, individuals must fulfill all normal requirements to gain access to the JBIRC, which means that non-JBIRC members must contact the JBIRC 24-hours ahead of time (2220 15 00 ext. 4207, 4117, 4021, 4168, or 4340) and ask for permission to enter the center on the desired date. Note: Photo identification is required for all sessions. The EducationUSA Advising Center is closed on U.S. and Cameroonian holidays.  No sessions are offered during EAC or U.S. Embassy closures.
