SELECTION OF CANDIDATES FOR THE Fulbright Program (ACADEMIC YEAR 2009-2010)

Yaoundé, January 22, 2008

The Public Affairs Section of the United States Embassy in Yaoundé is pleased to announce the annual competition for the Fulbright programs for the academic year 2009-2010.  Preliminary applications for these fellowships are available on the U.S. Embassy website and can also be downloaded at http://yaounde.usembassy.gov/fulbright.

Completed application files must be returned no later than April 30, 2008. 

The Fulbright Research program has three components:

• African Research Scholar program;
• Junior Staff Development program; and
• The Junior Staff Enhancement program for Francophones.  

The African Senior Research Scholar program awards grants to foreign scholars to conduct post-doctoral research at U.S. institutions.  Applicants must have a doctoral degree, at least three years of university teaching experience, and speak English well.   Candidates with less experience than senior researchers may apply for the African Professional development grant.  Applicants must possess at least a master’s degree; have five years of university teaching experience, and speak English well (TOEFL score 500 min).

The Junior Staff development program is for applicants seeking a Masters or Doctoral degree.  It also offers training in a non-degree research and a non-academic program in the arts.  Fluency in English is required (TOEFL score 500 min).

The Junior Staff development program is for Francophones, who lack adequate English proficiency, and offers qualified candidates a chance to pursue a master’s degree in the fields of economics, history, information sciences, political science, and public administration.  Successful candidates undergo intensive English language training before they are enrolled into the program (TOEFL score must be between 480 – 530).
