HIV/AIDS Awareness at the American Corner Bertoua

December 15, 2005

PAS Yaounde sponsored an HIV/AIDS Awareness program at the American Corner Bertoua, Cameroon in support of World AIDS Day and in coordination with Ambassador Marquardt’s travels to the NW and West of Cameroon where HIV/AIDS education was a focal point of his trip.  100 participants 16 – 20 years of age watched the film, “Scenarios d’Afrique,” 15 short vignettes on HIV/AIDS made by African film-makers.  The presentation was followed by a short discussion and lunch.

The use of a French language film made by African film-makers facilitated participation, understanding and enthusiasm.  The scenarios used in the film were relatable to the participants and led to a lively discussion.  The program advanced our MPP goal of promoting global health and embraced a younger audience.  The program was covered by local print and radio media.  Local media requested a copy of the film to air on television – resulting in the opportunity to reach a wider audience.
