Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Announcement 2010

The Public Affairs Section of the United States Embassy in Yaoundé is pleased to announce the annual competition for the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program for the academic year 2011-2012.  This one year full scholarship program is offered to mid-career professionals who have a proven track record of leadership, a public service commitment, and the capacity to take full advantage of a self-defined program of independent study at a leading U.S. university.  The program awards a certificate from the U.S. government; it is not designed to deliver an advanced degree. Completed applications with an undergraduate degree or equivalent only should be returned no later than March 5, 2010.  Do not forward letters of reference and transcripts. 

Please note:  In the United States, a Bachelor’s Degree is generally a four-year course of study.  Applicants for the Humphrey program must hold the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree.  Therefore, Cameroonian applicants who hold a 3-year Bachelor’s degree are generally not competitive applicants.  Those applicants may still apply, but they should be fully aware that applicants who hold the Matrisse or otherwise have completed four years of university study are generally more competitive.

Fellowships are available in the following fields: agricultural development or agricultural economics, communications/journalism, drug abuse and education, economic development, education, finance and banking, higher education administration, HIV/AIDS policy and prevention, human resource management law, human rights, natural resources and environmental management, nonproliferation, public health policy and management, public policy analysis and public administration, teaching English as a foreign language, trafficking in persons, and urban and regional planning.

To be eligible for the Humphrey Program, applicants must have:

  • An undergraduate degree or its equivalence.
  • Five years of substantial professional experience
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and a record of public service
  • Fluency in English
  • Limited prior experience in the U.S.
