International Education Week (IEW) 2009
International Education Week (IEW) 2009 is a time to celebrate “the importance and benefits of international education in the United States and around the world,” stated U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan. This year’s theme, Creating a Vision for a Better Future, emphasizes the key role that international education plays in ensuring a more secure and prosperous future for all. “In a world that gets smaller every day, a quality education must incorporate an international dimension – not as an add-on, but as an approach that is integrated across all subjects, from math and science to social studies.”
In celebration of IEW 2009, the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy has planned a general introduction to study in the U.S. for Cameroonian students. IEW also marks the reopening of the Embassy’s EducationUSA Advising Center (EAC) with a new Education Advisor.
On Wednesday, November 18, from 14:00, there will be a presentation at the American Language Center (ALC) in Douala for a limited number of students who wish to pursue undergraduate and graduate study in the U.S. It will feature information on the Fulbright Scholarship program as well.
To attend the presentation, please contact the ALC at 3343-2642 or 7592-3507.
The EAC is also pleased to announce Ms. Fatimah Mateen as the new Education Advisor. The EAC offers workshops to the public that provide a general introduction to study in the U.S. as well as how to choose a school and finance your education. The EAC has many resources for researching study in the U.S.: general university reference guides, test registration and preparation materials, career-specific books, etc. The Education Advisor is also available for individual advising appointments. See the Educational Advising webpage at http://yaounde.usembassy.gov and click on the Educational Advising link on the right-hand side.
Please contact the Educational Adviser at YaoundeEDU@state.gov if you have any questions.
