Ebolowa Media Seminar Combines
Theory and Practice.

October 11-12, 2006

A two-day media seminar workshop in Ebolowa, the capital of President Biya’s native South Province, permitted twenty journalists, managers and publishers from public and private media outlets “to take a look in the mirror,” as one participant put it. The PAS-organized seminar featured veteran local journalist Dr. Daniel Anicet Noah, who conducted theoretical and practical sessions on ethics, journalism techniques and professionalism, and management. Information Officer Judith Ravin made a well-received exposé on media in the U.S. with an emphasis on the First Amendment and the role of the media in democracy.

Participant Roger Atangana called the seminar “a great step in building a more sustainable and professional media in the South Province.” Acknowledging the urgent need to create a journalistic network to share information and build solidarity, participants have already begun to work on a draft for the network to have full status in the weeks to come.
