Kenya Airways Flight 507: Consular Representatives Information-Sharing Meeting

Yaounde, May 9, 2007

Consular representatives from countries affected by the recent crash of Kenya Airways flight 507 met on May 8, 2007, at the U.S. Embassy in Yaoundé.  Also on hand at the meeting were representatives of the Airports of Cameroon, ASECNA and Kenya Airways.  The purpose of the gathering was to share reliable information to better equip consular representatives to respond to incoming requests from grieving family members, many of whom are not present in Cameroon, and to assist the Government of Cameroon in any way possible.  The group reviewed points of contact for Kenya Airways and for the Inquiry Commission put in place by the Government of Cameroon, where inquiries are to be directed for reliable information or updates in relation to the accident.  Participants also discussed procedures related to the disposition of personal effects of victims and how to accommodate next-of-kin requests to visit the crash site.  Participants raised other issues, which were conveyed to the Government of Cameroon.
