Kenya Airways Flight 507: United States Joins Search-And-Investigation Assistance

Yaounde, May 7, 2007

The Government of Cameroon has accepted the U.S. Government offer of assistance in the investigation into the cause of the crash of Kenya Airways flight KQ 507, which originated in Abidjan May 4, en route to Nairobi.  A United States military aircraft arrived in Douala on May 6 and immediately joined the search for the missing Kenya Airways flight.

A U.S. team will arrive in Douala on May 8 to assist with the investigation.  The team comprises representatives from the National Transportation Safety Board, the Federal Aviation Administration, Boeing Corporation, and aircraft engine manufacturer General Electric.  The U.S. Government is working closely with the Government of Cameroon as it continues to put in place systems to respond to the developing needs of the crisis.

The U.S. Embassy Yaounde extends its most profound condolences to the families of the passengers and crew aboard Kenya Airways flight KQ 507.  Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.
