U.S. Government equips Campo Ma’an National Park to improve anti-poaching program
The U.S. Ambassador to Cameroon presented to the Ministry of Forests and Fauna 8 all terrain motor cycles and numerous VHF radio sets to increase Cameroon’s conservation efforts in the Campo Ma’an Park. The event took place in Campo on April 6, 2009 in the presence of the Divisional Officer, the conservator of the park, traditional rulers and eco guards. The equipment valued at $ 45,000 will help the eco guards improve the anti poaching program with more mobile patrols and better communication facilities. The conservator, the eco guards express their gratitude to the U.S. Ambassador for improving their working conditions with these new tools.
The Director of Fauna and protected areas thanked to the U.S. government for this timely gesture which will improve significantly their efforts in fighting poachers in the park. The equipment purchased is part of $750,000 spent by the U.S. Department of Defense to promote biodiversity in Cameroon. Korup National Park and Mefou National Park have previously received donations from the U.S. Embassy for biodiversity projects.
