Entrepreneurship Seminar: Cameroonian Students Learn Success Strategies
On June 23, 2009, the Embassy hosted an entrepreneurship seminar based on Kevin Liles Nouveaux Horizons book entitled “Saisis ta Chance: de Stagiaire à PDG” (Make it Happen: the Hip-Hop Generation Guide to Success). This three-hour program that brought together fifty students from Cameroonian universities aimed at providing the next generation of Cameroonian business and social leaders with the tools to succeed in a challenging environment. In his opening remarks, the Public Affairs Officer, Mr. Richard Johannsen, told participants that no matter the country, success lies in some key principles: hard work, motivation and audacity. Using examples drown from the Cameroonian context, Dr. Theophile Eyada, lecturer at the Catholic University of Central Africa, walked participants through the 10 success principles outlined by Kevin Liles in his book.
Participants found Kevin Liles experience inspiring and motivating. They now better believe that, the numerous challenges in finding a job or creating an enterprise in Cameroon notwithstanding, hard work can pay off.
The program ended with a guided tour of the James Baldwin Information Resource Center and the distribution of copies of “Saisis ta Chance” to all participants.
While expressing gratitude to the Embassy for showing so much concern for the future of Cameroonian youth, one of the participants declared: “You have shown us the door to success. It is now up to us to seize it and make things happen!”
