Ambassador Attends Investiture of New Peace Corps Volunteers
Thirty Peace Corps trainees were sworn in as official Peace Corps Volunteers on August 19th. They arrived in Cameroon June 5, 2009 to embark upon 11 intensive weeks of training in language, technical, cross cultural, medical and safety and security sessions. The trainees were placed with home stay families in Bangante, West Region for the entire time of their training. The training was a great success with zero attrition and no safety or security incidents. Per Ambassador Garvey, the volunteers are the real American Ambassadors showing the true image of the United States and the Peace Corps Mission. The 30 new volunteers will work in the program areas of Education and Small Enterprise Development. Sixteen of the Education volunteers will be teaching English, Science, Biology, Physics and computer information and 14 of the Small Enterprise volunteers will be working with micro credit institutions and small businesses.
Ambassador Janet Garvey and the Peace Corps Director, James T. Ham presided over the event along with the Senior Division Officer for Nde. This group of volunteers is one of the most diverse groups we have had to serve. Peace Corps and the U.S. Mission in Cameroon looks forward to supporting them.
