Workshop on Environmental Reporting for Chadian and Cameroonian Journalists
Twenty-five journalists from community radio stations in Chad and Cameroon attended a three-day workshop on environmental reporting in Ngaoundere, Cameroon August 31. Northern Cameron and Southern Chad share many of the same environmental issues, such as deforestation because of the need for firewood, encroaching desertification, erosion, drought, and decreased soil productivity. The program, which was jointly organized by the Public Affairs offices of the U.S. Embassies in Yaounde and Ndjamena, helped teach participants on the role of media in environmental protection and focused on improving their reporting techniques. At the end of the program, the participants created a network to share information and further educate affected populations about environmental preservation and climate change in the Sahel zone.
