Club Média Ouest Hosts West Province Media Training

Media Training Seminar
August 23-25, 2006

In coordination with Club Média Ouest, The U.S. Embassy – Yaoundé brought Cameroon media doyen Dr. Daniel Anicet Noah to share his 35 years of experience in the field during a three-day seminar in which he presented topics of critical relevance to a regional group of 30 print, radio and television journalists. Topics included the difficulty in getting Cameroonian authorities to speak on record, management of limited media resources and the temptation of corruption in the media. Public Affairs Section Information Officer Judith Ravin gave an exposé on media in the United States that sparked interest as an alternative model for media’s potential in society.

The seminar created a vibrant forum for exchange and underscored the force of the media when acting in concert. Participants expressed the energizing effect of having Dr. Noah as a resource and mentor on all aspects of the media. Radio Batcham Program Chief said the seminar taught him the importance of taking the time to learn before forging ahead in the media profession and that when a journalist “combines honesty and professionalism, he always manages to impart something significant to the public.”  (Photo gallery)
