Swearing-in Ceremony of 36 American Peace Corps Voluteers in Cameroon
The swearing-in of 36 American Peace Corps volunteers, who have completed training and immersion, took place at the Bangangté Hôtel de Ville, on Wednesday, August 22, 2007. The ceremony was presided over by Chargé d’Affaires Richard W. Nelson of the U.S. Embassy ; the Ministry of National Education; the Ministry of Small and Medium-Size Enterprises, Social Economy and Handicrafts; the Governor of the West Province Pascal Mani; Peace Corps/Cameroon Country Director James Tavio Ham; and dignitaries of Mifi and Ndé.
The swearing-in ceremony marked the end of three months of intense training in cross-cultural understanding, language, and teaching techniques in Cameroon’s grammar schools and high schools an and in the development of small and medium-size enterprises. Twenty-one volunteers will teach English, mathematics, and information technology when the school session opens, while fifteen volunteers will be placed in financial institutions for the Promotion and Development of Small and Medium Enterprises.
