Photo Focus on Diplomacy – Highlighting 50 Years of Friendship Between the United States and Cameroon

An awestruck crowd visited and revisited a 50-year commemorative photography exhibit held in the U.S. Ambassador’s Residence, which was transformed into a three-room expansive photography gallery for the occasion. During the first phase, on July 3, 2007, PAS Yaounde invited local and international media to an exclusive preview of the exhibit and a press conference held in the middle of the exhibit’s main showroom. This was a lead-up to the July Fourth celebration, where through the Photo Focus on Diplomacy exhibit, 2500 guests explored the many domains diplomacy permeates: trade, development assistance, education, military engagement, history, religious exchange, culture, sports, music, protocol, and the media.

Fourth of July “gallery” visitors told the editorial production team that they lacked words to express the emotion they felt upon seeing this 121-strong photographic display. Many guests mentioned that the exhibit awakened them to value of documenting unique events in the country’s history and the shared history between the United States and Cameroon.

Working in partnership with Cameroon’s Ministry of External Relations, the Embassy plans a year-long campaign using the “Photo Focus on Diplomacy” exhibit to promote and discuss both countries mutual interests and collaborations.
