U.S. Embassy Hosts First Roundtable on Human Rights Report
Yaounde, December 19, 2008
On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, on December 16, 2008 the U.S. Embassy hosted a roundtable meeting of prominent representatives from government and civil society to discuss human rights issues in Cameroon. For the first time ever, the Embassy solicited public feedback on the Department of State’s annual Human Rights Report on Cameroon. Participants openly exchanged views, focusing on four themes: security force abuses, prison conditions, political rights, and women’s rights. The 2007 Human Rights Report can be found on the Embassy website at:

The Embassy plans to continue organizing such gatherings as we work to help Cameroon strengthen its commitment to human rights. The 2008 Human Rights Report will be released in March 2009.
