USS Doyle Welcomes Cameroon Media Aboard

Some twenty members of the Cameroonian press literally climbed aboard the USS Doyle on October 4, 2007, for a guided tour and an overview of the U.S. Navy frigate’s nine-day port visit to Limbe, Cameroon. The tour included a Navy-style cafeteria lunch, a fire-fighting presentation, a visit to the ship’s helm, explanation of the defense and navigational equipment aboard, and a press conference led by Michael Elliot, Commanding Officer of the USS Doyle. Captain Elliot described for journalists the practical training exercises conducted with the Cameroon Navy in the areas of visit, board, search and seizure (VBSS) tactics; shipboard maintenance management; command-and-control coordination; shipboard fire-fighting; navigation techniques; and small-boat maneuvering. Limbe was the second-to-last stop on a four-month trajectory that took the USS Doyle and its crew of 220 to Cape Verde, Senegal, Gabon, Morocco, Ghana, and Sao Tome and Principe.
